A weekend full of crafts!

I visited my grandma right before christmas and totally caught the sewing bug. She's got a 100 yr old singer sewing machine. It lives on a table that my grandpa made with his own hands and the machine's got a motor that he built for it in the 50's. :) I've got sewing envy that she's got such a cool machine. It sews WAY better than my moms machine. After acquiring the sewing bug I wanted to learn to embroider, I taught myself how using google. This is what I made!

To make this Runner:
I used white cotton, I think it was about 68 inches long.
I used the whip stitch mostly for the embroidery.
I hemmed the edges.
Add the eyelet on the under side, and sew the ribbon on top. So you're sandwiching the cotton.
I then added a two layer bow and attached it with a few hand stitches.

Naturally I had to make my crafty area look lovely, so I created fabric boards.

To make these boards:
I cut up an old shoe box from Bass for the backing using an xacto knife.
The fabric was a gift from my grandmother, she was going to make a blouse out of it. :)
I measured the fabric and attached it on the back with a hot glue gun (super easy)
The ribbon I measured 2 inches apart for the most beribboned board. The other ones I eyeballed the style then measured to make sure it was even.
The photo's were extra's from my mothers photo box. I wouldn't advise tearing apart photo albums, you'll get a finger shaking. ;)

Finnally, I decided I didn't have enough photo's of my handsom boyfriend. The photo is from our trip to Seattle over the winter holiday season. It was aboslutely freezing that day, so we ducked into as many antique shops as possible. He's the absolute best, he never complains when I want to do a little shopping.  So patient.

To make this Frame:
I covered a piece of cardboard with blue cotton I got from my grandma
I put the photo centered on top
I made the caption by layering black and white card stock
The glittery little something is a vintage shoe clip that I got on ebay.
The ribbon is left over from the brooks brother gift wrap we had at christmas

Gossip Girl Bow

I adore all things girly, which includes but is not limited too...Bows, Ruffles and Glitter. My mom loathes glitter but thats ok, It just means I have to limit my addiction and use it sparingly.

I made this bow based on the blair waldorf headband. Alas I don't have any pictures of mine, but it came out really well! It seriously took me about 10 minutes. easy peasy. The only slight ki-bosh is I can't find the spool of ribbon now. boooo...it's probably lurking under my bed.

Nathan's christmas Stocking

I made this stocking for my boyfriend (Nathan) who doesn't REALLY celebrate christmas. Though he was quite willing to sacrifice his non celebrating and indulge in the festivities. He's got christmas spirit bottled up in their somewhere, I can sense it. :)

He's got a stocking. It's officially. He's part of the Orlowski's christmas celebration!

My own Cran Yam Recipe

Cran Yam
Ingredients:
3 big yams
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
1 bag of fresh cranberries
2 ¼ cups marshmellows
juice of 4 satsumas
2 tbls butter softened
¼ cup brown sugar
½ cup honey
1 tbls of Satsuma zest
2 tbls of lemon zest
2/3 cup of chopped walnuts

Instructions
Bake yams for 40 minutes in tin foil at 300 degrees
Line cookie sheet with tin foil, turn sides up to create a border. Wash and spread out cranberries on cookie sheet. Drizzle honey evenly over all cranberries. Combine 1 tsp of cinnamon, ½ tsp of nutmeg, ½ tsp of ginger and 1/8 tsp cloves and sprinkle over cranberries. Sprinkle lemon and Satsuma zest. Bake until cranberries begin to split open.
Peel yam skin off and mash. Add butter and honey. Add the same amounts of spices to yam mixture.  Add orange juice. Salt to taste. Transfer yam mix to serving dish and evenly dispurse it. Sprinkle brown sugar on top.
Add a thin layer of chopped walnuts.
Add a layer of cranberries, save a few to decorate the very top
Add a layer of Marshmellows. Bake until marshmellows turn golden brown.
Dot the marshmellow topping with a few well places walnuts and cranberries

I created this recipe while living in NY. It was my first thanksgiving in the city and I needed to bring a dish. I ran to the grocery store thanksgiving afternoon and I got inspired. A bag of cranberries, marshmallows, cinnamon, honey. Thus cran yam was born. It's morphed over the years and this is the latest...
